3/11/11

I wouldn't be a faithful J-Blogger if I let 3/11/11 go by unnoticed.

Where were you a year ago?  Do you remember?  I was safe in bed when a 9.0 magnitude earthquake hit Japan off the coast close to the city of Sendai.  The devastation was unmatched and many people lost their lives in the destruction.

I was in bed asleep when I was jolted awake at the time the earthquake occured.  I don't claim to have any sort of prophetic powers but I do have a deeply rooted connection to Japan.  So I think (and maybe you think this is crazy) but I think I knew somehow which is why I woke up.  Because I couldn't sleep, I went on Facebook and noticed a couple of my Japanese friends had posted something about an earthquake.  I soon found out how terrible it was and I worried about the friends I had there.  Fortunately, everyone I knew was okay.

A year later I'm on a flight to Japan.  If you asked me if I'd be traveling to Japan in March 2012, I probably would have said "no."  Funny how things change over a year.  This is the most exciting Japan trip I've ever been on.  I know that and I haven't even gone yet!  It will be amazing; I know it will.

When I come back on Friday, I''l update this blog with fashion and shopping and the sights of Tokyo.  I'm so excited!

Meanwhile, you can look at this site which has some amazing pictures.

Japan and one outfit...

Someone today asked me if my Japan trip was canceled.  He will remain nameless because well he's a dick.  I expressed my sadness in the fact that I had to cancel my trip and he turned around and attempted to make me feel like a careless bitch implying that I didn't give a shit about the Japanese people.  Fuck you asshole!  I wanted to shout at him but I didn't.  How dare he.  I probably care about Japan and the Japanese people more than I care about America and Americans.  I have many many friends in Japan and made an effort to insure they were all okay after not only the first but also the second earthquake.  I donated money to the Salvation Army (more than I did for Haiti).  I have worn my shirt in support of Japan every Friday since the earthquake.  So don't snarkily imply that I don't care about Japan.  If I didn't have a job and a house and a kid I would be over there right now picking up debris off the street.  Sorry for the rant.  That just really pissed me off.

Whew!  This is still a fashion blog right?

Here's today:

In truth I took off the shoes before lunch.  They are so cute but so painful!  (Hooray for looking skinny in pictures!)  Both tops YesStyle, necklace Lia Sophia, jeans Goodwill, shoes eBay and scarf from the Japanese magazine Miss (ミス).  A pink or white one came in the mag and I originally wanted pink but I'm glad I got white.  It goes with more.

How's the end of your week?

♥ 日本 ♥

I suppose I wouldn't be a faithful Japanese blogger unless I blogged about the earthquake.  Unless you live in a cave or are without access to any news medium you know about the earthquake in Japan.

Last night I couldn't sleep.  I don't claim to be any sort of prophet but it was kind of weird that I decided to get on Facebook minutes after it hit.  I changed my status calling out to my friends to see if they were okay.  So far the news has been good.  None of my friends have been seriously injured or worse.  There are only a couple of people I haven't been able to contact.  My closest friends are fine.  Some are stranded.

I have NHK on right now.  They are urging people to get to higher ground and the the death toll is rising.  The footage is difficult to watch at best but I am glad I downloaded that app.  People are stuck in train stations and are camping out in their offices.  This is a difficult time for Japan and my heart goes out to all of those affected by this earthquake.

Dear Sakiko Ichigo and Atsumi Furuya, I love you and I am glad you are okay!
